Their look has exploded therefore weary from passing
Of taverns there is nothing it can hold.
There appear to be a lot of taverns about him,
And, away beyond a thousand taverns, no world.

The mellowed stride of sleekly powered footsteps
Revolving inside smallest ring of all
Is like a-dance of power about a center
Wherein a great might appears numbed in thrall.

Just in certain cases the pupil's soundless curtain
Is reeled away, permitting a picture begin
Inward through the taut silence of his sinews
And started to nothing in the heart.

Sein Blick ist vom Vorübergehen der Stäbe
so müd geworden, daß er nichts mehr hält.
Ihm ist und bleibt, als ob es tausend Stäbe gäbe
und hinter tausend Stäben keine Welt.

Der weiche Gang geschmeidig starker Schritte,
der sich im allerkleinsten Kreise dreht,
ist wie ein Tanz von Kraft um eine Mitte,
in der betäubt ein großer Wille steht.
